
1. How do I apply for the workshop?
- Complete the MNTP application, and submit to (MNTP@pitt.edu) along with a copy of you CV and a brief (2 page) essay describing your neuroimaging experience, interest and goals in participating in the workshop.
2. Where will the meetings for the summer workshop be located?
- All lectures and meetings will be held at, Mellon Institute 115, CNBC Conference Room 115, Pittsburgh, PA 15213 unless otherwise specified at the meetings.
3. Who do I contact in case I have questions about the workshop?

4. When does the workshop begin?
- The six-week workshop will begin Sunday, June 22nd and end Thursday, July 31st at noon.
5. When is check-in time?
- Please arrive Saturday, June 21st between 3 and 5 PM at the Summer Housing Office in Donner Resident Hall. Check-out is 11:00 a.m. August 1, 2008. (see map for location on MNTP website).
6. Will there be housing available for attendance to the workshop?
- Participants located out of town will be provided with dormitory housing at Webster Apartments on Fifth Avenue. Pick up keys at the Summer Housing Office in Donner Resident Hall.(see housing map on the MNTP website)
7. How is late arrivals handled?
- If you arrive after 5 PM on Saturday, please provide us with the necessary information so that arrangements can be placed for late arrival.
8. How do I travel to Pittsburgh?
- If you fly: Continental, Southwest, AirTran, American, Delta, JetBlue, Northwest, US Airways and United all service Pittsburgh International Airport with several flights daily. JetBlue offers four non-stop flights daily from JFK. Taxi service between the Pittsburgh Airport and Oakland is available, as are rental cars.
Once you have claimed your bags and are ready to proceed to our campus, you have the following options if you have chosen not to hire a car for your personal use during your stay:
Taxis are always available just outside the baggage claim area. The cost to you from the airport to our campus would be approximately $48 U.S. Dollars. If none are waiting when you arrive, here are the names and telephone numbers of the local companies:

The most economical way to get to campus is to use public transportation. The Airport Flyer or 28X is a special city bus equipped with additional space for luggage and costs approximately $2.75 U.S. Dollars each way. One end of the 28X's route begins just outside the baggage claim area at the airport and ends at Carnegie Mellon's campus. One way, the trip takes approximately 45 minutes. It runs every 20 minutes from 6:00 a.m. - midnight.
The information regarding the 28X route is subject to changes. It is important for you to check for changes by calling the Port Authority at 1-412-442-2000 for the most accurate information available.
Cars rental reservations can be made and picked up at the Pittsburgh International Airport should you wish to rent a car. Avis, National, Budget and Alamo
9. If coming from abroad, how should arrangements be made?
- If you are coming from outside the USA, please make your airline reservations in your own country and book your flight to Pittsburgh, PA.
10. If I drive, what are directions to Oakland, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?

From the North:
Follow I-79 South to I-279 South towards Pittsburgh. Follow signs for I-579 South, Veteran's Bridge. Take Exit 8A and follow signs for Monroeville/Liberty Bridge, 579 S to 376. Merge to the right (be aware of traffic entering from the right) and Follow the signs for the Oakland/Monroeville, 376 East Exit. (You must merge to the right Exit and be aware of traffic entering from the right). Follow signs for Forbes Ave/Oakland. You will see two small orange/blue signs on your right for Oakland and Univ. of Pittsburgh. There will also be a small green sign for Forbes Avenue. Follow those signs, making a hard right over a small overpass, merging onto Forbes Avenue below. Follow the map above from Forbes Avenue.
From the West via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76):
Take Exit 3 Cranberry. After the toll booth, stay toward the right and merge onto Rt. 19 South. Follow the signs for I-79 South to I-279 South towards Pittsburgh. Then follow directions above (From the North) from I-279 South.
From the East via the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) or the Parkway (I-376):
Take the PA Turnpike to Exit 6, Monroeville. Follow I-376 (the Parkway East) through the Squirrel Hill Tunnels to the Oakland Exit, 3B to Bates Street. From Bates, make a left onto Atwood. Follow Atwood to Forbes Avenue. Make a right turn onto Forbes Avenue. Follow the map above from Forbes Avenue.
From the South:
Take I-79 North to I-279 North (Pittsburgh Exit); Follow I-279 through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and bear right on the ramp for I-376 East (Monroeville, Exit 8); Follow I-376 to Exit 5, Forbes Avenue/Oakland. Follow above map from Forbes Avenue.
From the Pittsburgh International Airport:
Exit the Airport and follow signs for Rt. 60 S to Pittsburgh. Continue on Rt. 60 to Rt. 22/30 East. Follow 22/30 to I-279 (the Parkway West). Follow I-279 through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and bear right on the ramp for I-376 East (Monroeville, Exit 8); Follow I-376 to Exit 5, Forbes Avenue/Oakland. Follow above map from Forbes Avenue.
11. What kinds of entertainment/activities are available in Pittsburgh?

12. Is there parking in Oakland?

13. How do I dress for the workshop?

In June the days are apt to be cool, the evenings chilly and some days wet. Bring warm clothes, good shoes for walking, a hat and sunglasses. In July the weather is warm, and often hot, so bring shorts-even a bathing suit is handy. Bring mosquito repellent. Everything here is informal.
14. What liability will be incurred if the workshop is cancelled?

In the event that we cancel the workshop, for any reason, the extent of The Workshops’ liability is limited to the reimbursement of travel expenses paid. The Workshops will not be responsible for reimbursement of non-refundable airline tickets due to cancellation of a course or replacement of an instructor. We strongly urge you not to purchase non-refundable airline tickets.
