Title: The Consequences of Making a Decision: Feedback Signals and Learning
Speaker: Julie Fiez

Abstract:Much of the neuroimaging literature on value-based decision-making has focused on the role of the ventral striatum in processing errors of reward prediction in order to accurately estimate expected reward values. In this talk, I will focus upon the dorsal sector of the striatum and discuss its contributions to feedback-based learning. Drawing upon results from a range of cognitive tasks, I will argue that when humans make a cognitive decision under conditions in which feedback is expected, outcome information can rapidly shape the underlying representations that guide performance. If correct, this view offers a new perspective on the interrelationship between declarative and procedural memory systems.
